Capsule Geology

The Bluff 1 North occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1390 metres on a southeast-facing slope, south of Mable Creek and approximately 4.1 kilometres north-west of the south-west end of North Barriere Lake.

Regionally, the area is underlain by the Graffunder Lakes, Skwaam Bay and Slate Creek units of the upper Paleozoic to lower Cambrian Eagle Bay Assemblage, which consist of micaceous quartzite, sericite-quartz schist, mudstone, siltstone, shale and calc-alkaline volcanic rocks. Local foliation strikes 135 degrees with a 5 degrees northeast dip. The Cretaceous Baldy Batholith, consisting of quartz monzonitic intrusive rocks, lies to the north.

Locally, as defined by rotary drilling, silica-flooded and variably chlorite-sericite–altered tuffs, tuff breccias and phyllites (possible an altered volcaniclastic) host disseminated to massive sulphides comprised of pyrite, sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite.

In 1986, two diamond drill holes (NDD-86-18 and -19) yielded intercepts including 0.04 and 0.03 per cent copper, 0.30 and 0.37 per cent zinc and 0.19 and 0.18 per cent lead with 3.9 and 2.4 grams per tonne silver over 8.3 and 21.2 metres, respectively (Assessment Report 21208).

In 1987, rotary drilling to the northeast yielded intercepts including 0.067 per cent copper, 0.403 per cent lead, 0.557 per cent zinc and 5.7 grams per tonne silver over 13.7 metres, including 0.169 per cent copper, 1.44 per cent lead, 2.16 per cent zinc and 19.6 grams per tonne silver over 1.6 metres in hole NRD-87-9 and 0.034 per cent copper, 0.229 per cent lead, 0.304 per cent zinc and 1.8 grams per tonne silver over 75.2 metres, including 1.13 per cent lead, 1.41 per cent zinc and 7.8 grams per tonne silver over 1.6 metres in hole NRD-87-5 and (Assessment Report 17344). Drillhole NRD-87-5 was located approximately 200 metres south-southwest of drill hole NRD-87-9. Also at this time, drillhole NRD-87-7, located southeast of the previous holes, yielded values of up to 1.55 per cent zinc, 0.78 per cent lead, 6.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.10 gram per tonne gold over 3.0 metre intervals (Assessment Report 21208).

In 1990, diamond drill hole BC90-01 intersected a silicified and sericitic felsic tuff and tuff breccia yielding 0.17 per cent copper, 0.48 per cent lead, 1.08 per cent zinc, 11.2 grams per tonne silver and 0.06 gram per tonne gold over 11.76 metres and sporadic sulphide bands, up to 0.88 metre wide, in variable sericite-chlorite–altered intermediate to felsic volcanic tuff yielding intercepts of 0.66 and 0.59 per cent copper, 4.32 and 5.47 per cent lead, 8.86 and 6.33 per cent zinc, 25.4 and 40.1 grams per tonne silver with 0.48 and 0.34 gram per tonne gold over 0.88 and 1.0 metre, respectively (Assessment Report 21208). A second drillhole (BC90-03), testing 200 metres downdip and 500 metres along strike from the previous hole, yielded intercepts of up to 0.92 per cent copper, 0.37 per cent lead, 3.30 per cent zinc, 25.0 grams per tonne silver and 0.10 gram per tonne gold over 4.28 metres (Assessment Report 21208).

Also at this time, a trench (FLTR90-01), located 230 metres east of drillhole BC90-01, exposed two narrow massive sulphide intervals in altered volcanics yielding up to 1.1 per cent zinc, 0.70 per cent lead, 8.5 grams per tonne silver and 0.03 gram per tonne gold over 1.5 metres (Assessment Report 21208).

In 2011, a rock sample (8R267085) assayed 0.402 per cent copper and 3.2 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 32147).

Work History

The area has been explored in conjunction with the nearby Percy (MINFILE 082M 219) occurrence and a completed exploration history can be found there.

During 1985 through 1987, Noranda Mining and Exploration Inc. completed programs of trenching and drilling on the occurrence. During 1989 through 1991, Falconbridge Ltd. completed programs of geochemical (rock and soil) sampling, geological mapping, 97.7 line-kilometres of combined ground magnetic, electromagnetic and induced polarization surveys, trenching and at least nine diamond drill holes, totalling 2619.2 metres, on the Bluff, Bet, Mac, Raven, Rust and Percy claims.

During 2005 through 2013, the area was prospected and (rock, silt and soil) sampled as the Stellar claims.
